So it seems that there is an honest-to-cheeses otome game for the iPhone, in English, where you can romance a number of J-rock vocalists - among them Yo-ka and Subaru. Apparently, the thing's been out for a year. I just happened to stumble across a reference to it on the main Royz blog on Tumblr. I'm actually amazed I didn't come across any references to it on any Diaura communities/blogs.

I am so half-tempted to download this thing, despite the fact that I usually don't play otome games (well, I'd probably play Hakuouki or the Boueibu game if they were available in English for iPhone). I'd be more than half-tempted if there were an option where you could have the boys romance each other instead of your Mary Sue, but hey. The artwork is pretty amusing - everyone looks like a spare Boueibu character. (When I'm writing, I will sometimes visualize the scene I'm working on as a manga panel. Mangafied Camera Eye!Yo-ka most definitely does not look like his otome game counterpart).

I'm just amazed that the game got translated and got an official English-language release. I don't think any of the bands represented here have ever had their work officially released in North America.

I guess Gackt's P.S I love u app is a bit like that. As a huge Gackt fan I got bored of it pretty quickly. There was so few options to choose from, you just had to read a story with a heroine that's meant to be you, but does nothing you'd actually do. (Like turning down her best friend for the Doctor who barely looks at her).

It's a nice story, but it's not a game.

Sounds like pretty much the same thing - a barely-interactive Mary Sue fanfic with pictures. Good for temporary amusement - but not something you'd want to do long-term (especially when said time could be better used writing fanfiction where you get to put your favorite J-rocker in a better match than with a generic Mary Sue).

These games WOULD be fun. But you need the options to be yourself.

And, I'm the type of fangirl happier to see their favourite J Rockers with each other than myself. I'm a huge Gackt fan, but the idea of spending longer than a few hours with someone like him is terrifying.

If they had a J-rock game like that, where you could pair up a group of six guys in different combinations? It would be a smash. Everyone would download it just to see their OTP making out (instead of just reading about it in text).

Of all the games to be released in English, that's an odd choice. Discoveries like this make me grateful for how low-tech my phone is; I have enough things to distract me/waste my time as it is!

Odd indeed - I'm actually surprised they didn't borrow the concept and replace the J-rockers with One Direction. Of course, they were probably thinking fans of otome games would play it regardless - one person on Tumblr said she got into J-rock because she played the game and then only found out afterward that Royz was a real band!
