I'm normally posting a fic at this time of month, and until now, I haven't missed a single monthly challenge throughout the history of VK Yaoi. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to miss this month, and probably next month as well. I've had a sudden and unexpected health issue that has to be dealt with. Hopefully, when I'm back, I'll be able to write several fics at once to make up for it!

Summary: Ruki is close to his life’s goal of becoming a full Satanic priest and running his own coven – although his mentor throws one last, near-unsurmountable challenge in his way. Fortunately, he has help from an old acquaintance – much to his annoyance. But does Byou drive Ruki crazy for the reasons Ruki thinks he does?
Comments: My July fill for the vkyaoi challenge, using the Bonus Moodboard, Gardening, and the following quote: “A common flower can be found anywhere, but when it doesn’t open, it’s left alone in this world to embrace loneliness.”

Summary: Subaru has always known he was different – he can see things nobody else can, and he possesses a strange crystal given to him by his grandmother. Then, one day, a near-disaster leads him to a group who may have the answers he’s sought all along – although his destiny could be too much for him to handle.
Comments: My June fill for the

vkyaoichallenge, using Moodboard 8, Fae Magic and the following quote: “I’m going to stay here even if I’m laughed at, this is who I am.” Also for the Shower/Bath square of my Season of Kink card. This is meant to be a companion piece to An Evil Spell My Life, presenting the other side of the magical universe – the white magicians. Ceremonial white magic hasn’t gotten as much attention in popular culture as black, Satanic magic (since, of course, people find evil far sexier than good). Rather than being based on any pop culture property, the group’s activity here was inspired by the history of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn – a Victorian magical group who believed they received their teachings and practices from the angels – and contemporary white magic practices such as Wicca.

This fic is ALL the fault of GazettE’s stylists – when I attended their show at Playstation Theater in New York and saw Uruha’s platinum blond bob in the flesh, all I could think, over and over, was, “He looks like Really Hot Genderswitched Netflix Sabrina.” This story was the result.

Comments: My January challenge entry for vkyaoi, using Prompt 11: Japan-Traditional and Quote 24, “What we will hear from there on isn’t his words nor his melody/But his voice that’s living now inside me.” (P.T.P. with ONE OK ROCK, “Voice” [Momoka]) Hanamizakura Kouki is Kouki’s enka singer alter ego; none of the other singers in the competition, or any of the senseis, are based on real people. The pairing was inspired by this tweet of Kouki’s - he and Shindy did a special group concert along with Yui of Unite over New Year’s. I chose the name Nakatomi at random, it is not actually associated with Shindy. See additional spoileriffic notes at the end of the fic.

vkyaoiwhich called for a fic based on either a cosplay a band has done or an anime they have done a theme song for. I went the cosplay route, primarily inspired by this picture and this one. The other two members of the band didn't have Aladdin cosplays, but I used other cosplays they'd done within the story. (And yes, I know I've done Aladdin before, but this one is more of a parody and follows the original film more closely).

Comments: Written for the November challenge at vkyaoi, which called for fics about lead guitarists. I had intended to write about Sena’s early days in Veekay shortly after completing His Knight’s Prince but got sidetracked by other things (read, other muses). Even though it isn’t labeled as part of the After Ever After series, it does take place in that timeline, around the time of The Hidden Prince.

Comments: Written for the October challenge at vkei yaoi, which called for fics focusing on vocalists with a secondary challenge of incorporating screaming or yelling into the story. The hairstyle of Kouki’s mentioned here is the most recent look of his enka-singing alter ego, Hanamazikura Koki. (Hence the joke here about him looking like an enka singer). Princess Yongsun is Solar, leader of the K-pop girl group Mammamoo. (She’ll be showing up in person in a later installment).

Comments: For the September challenge at vkyaoi, which involved left-side guitarists (which was Sakito’s position in Nightmare), and for the Gags/Silence square of my Season of Kink card. The stripper sketch mentioned here was inspired by Saturday Night Live’s classic “Chippendale Dancer” skit, which featured Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley. Yomi and Sakito were said to have a not-exactly-smooth relationship, especially during the last days of Nightmare, hence their portrayal here. Comments: Another belated entry for the June challenge at vkyaoi, which involves doing a story revolving around a band not featured in a fic on the community before. Neither R-Shitei nor Lezard had been tagged in the community before June. The Mamo in this fic was inspired by this photoset, although his basic appearance is closer to this photo.

Comments: For the June challenge at vkyaoi, which involves doing a story revolving around a band not featured in a fic on the community before. I chose Lezard, who are one of the most adorable bands out there both in terms of appearance and music. I have not come across rumored real names for them, so the family names used here are simply names of historical Japanese high-born families. There have also never been any rumors that I know of about Sora and Jun being brothers; that’s just an idea I had after seeing pictures of Sora with pink hair in the “look” for their album Go!Go!Tokagex! (Sora is not “from Lezard” here because he was not an original member of the band; he joined last year after their original vocalist, Lime, departed.)

Comments: For the May challenge at vkyaoi, which involves J-rockers who look alike. I’ve long believed that Saga from Alice Nine and I’ll from Fest Vainqueur look like brothers – and this fic also plays on a very long-standing rumor that Toya of Gotcharocka and Tora of Alice Nine really ARE brothers. (As far as I know, the rumor goes all the way back to when Toya was with his former band, Charlotte.)
