May. 10th, 2013 06:03 amWe had the funeral for my father yesterday. I managed to get through it a lot better than I thought I would, mainly because I'd had my major meltdown a couple of days before. (I was glad that it happened when I was alone, and not when I was around a group of other people, especially family members).
I was the only one of our family who was able to speak when the minister opened the floor. I honestly don't know where it came from. I saw nobody else was speaking, and I thought, "Well, if nobody else is going to do it, I am." And I got up there and just started talking. One of my cousins told me later that I was very brave for doing that. I just did what I had to do.
We had a reception afterward, for which my brother cooked entirely too much food. We now have two huge ice chests full of leftovers. Afterward, I came home, passed out for awhile, went on Tumblr for awhile (yes, I'm finally starting to recover my fangirl self), then went to help my mother deal with the piles of food.
Everybody, thank you so much for all the support you've shown me since this happened. I really do feel like I have a community behind me, and that's helped get me through this. Anyone who says that Internet friendships aren't real, that people onliine isn't the same as people in person, is full of it. I know better - especially now.
