I wasn't even aware that this happened! I knew you ridiculously restricted nudity though. British ratings are strict, but anything rated 18 (not suitable for anyone below 18) are shown in cinemas and advertised. 50 Shades of Grey definitely was for example. Ratings are a guide, not censorship!
Though on those adverts: We have what's called a watershed on TV, anything not suitable for children can only be shown after 8PM at night. As trailers are rated it may mean the trailers can only show on TV after 8PM and only before films with that rating or above.
Americans need to stop calling the British prudish, we are compared to some European countries, but America is without a doubt twice as bad.
