Kazi really did have some bad romantic incidents in the past, and Hiro wants to keep that from happening again. They definitely care about each other on a deep level - as deep as some of our couples, but in a friendship way, not a romantic way. (And as for the three-way playtime? It's a distinct possibility . . .)
